Advertising Council and its role

Advertising is an integral part of our everyday lives – we encounter it on the roads, in cities, on television, on the internet, and in stores. It has a significant impact on our opinions, preferences, and sometimes even our values. The Advertising Council was established in Slovakia in 1995, with the aim of regulating advertising and protecting its recipients from deception and violations of ethical standards.

Every entity that uses advertising to present its products or services should adhere to the rules of the Ethical Code of Advertising Practice. However, violations may sometimes occur. In such cases, complaints are assessed through an arbitration committee composed of experts in marketing, law, psychology, and others. Based on the assessment, the committee issues a conclusion, and if the complaint is justified, the advertisement is withdrawn from the market.

In addition to accepting externally submitted complaints, the Advertising Council also conducts regular monitoring of advertising campaigns and focuses on education to raise awareness of the ethical aspects of advertising. The Advertising Council also represents its members in the European Advertising Standards Alliance (EASA).
